Community & Teen Program Director

Palmdale/Lancaster, CA

POSITION: Community & Teen Program Director (full-time) M-F 10am - 7pm, with at least 1 Saturday per month and occasional weekends for special events.

RATE: $30 - $35

Primary Function:

The Community & Teen Program Director is responsible for leading school-age, teen, and community-based programming at designated standalone Club facilities, with a strong emphasis on outreach, partnerships, and engagement. This position oversees key initiatives and grant-funded programs such as the Best Buy Teen Tech Center and plays a central role in planning and coordinating community events, special events, and educational field trips. The Director is also responsible for hiring, supervising, and supporting program staff, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality, youth-centered programming that aligns with Club values. This role upholds all compliance, safety, and reporting standards while building strong relationships with schools, families, and community stakeholders

Key Responsibilities:

Teen & Community Program Leadership

  • Oversee all daily operations of teen and community programs at assigned sites.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate programs in the five core Boys & Girls Club areas: Character & Leadership, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports & Recreation.
  • Develop program schedules, special events (e.g., Teen Nights, Family Nights), and educational field trips, including approval requests and budget considerations.
  • Ensure programs meet grant requirements, especially those outlined in Best Buy Foundation agreements.

Best Buy Teen Tech Center Oversight (CBO Rep Role)

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Club, Best Buy, and The Clubhouse Network.
  • Ensure the Teen Tech Center maintains the culture, learning model, and program standards expected by the Best Buy Foundation.
  • Oversee onboarding, support, and professional development for the Teen Tech Center Coordinator and any other related staff.
  • Attend required trainings (e.g., Immersion Week), submit reports, and monitor grant-related budgets and expenditures in accordance with Best Buy guidelines.
  • Ensure the Teen Tech Center technology and space are maintained and operational.
  • Facilitate local partnerships and support long-term sustainability and equity in access.

Community Outreach & Relationship Building

  • Actively build partnerships with schools, youth groups, and community organizations.
  • Conduct school-day visits to middle and high schools to recruit participants and raise program visibility.
  • Represent the Club at community meetings and events.
  • Promote programming through flyers, social media, and other outreach tools.

Environment, Safety & Visual Culture

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming Club environment.
  • Ensure buildings are clean and inviting, with fresh visual displays, recognition boards, and promotional materials.
  • Support youth and staff in creating youth-led projects that contribute to Club culture.

Staff & Volunteer Oversight

  • Supervise a small team of program staff and volunteers, with a focus on quality program delivery, engagement, and alignment with Club standards.
  • Provide coaching and performance feedback with professionalism and consistency.
  • Schedule and manage staff hours in partnership with the RD.

Data, Reporting & Communication

  • Track daily attendance, program participation, and outcomes for reporting and grant compliance.
  • Maintain regular communication with families through newsletters, flyers, and announcements.
  • Provide program updates and data to leadership, highlighting progress toward strategic and grant goals.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model for youth, demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and integrity.
  • Uphold all Club safety and supervision protocols.
  • Escalate facility or program concerns to the RD or DOO as appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Assist with tracking data and paperwork for reports, grants, and planning.

 3. Communication

  • Must be able to inform important and relevant information in Staff Meetings and to parents, co-workers, Regional Director and other Boys & Girls Club affiliates.
  • Must be able to listen to co-workers, parents, youth members and community and other Boys & Girls Club affiliates while maintaining a professional relationship and positive representation of the Club at all times.
  • Must be able to present important and relevant information and/or presentations through program facilitation, staff meetings or trainings, and/or other Boys & Girls Club events.
  • Must be able to write and compose clear, concise, accurate written documentation and data reports.

 4. Supervision, & Safety

  • When needed, must be able to supervise up to 20 youth and keep members engaged and safe during program time
  • Ensure the safety standards are met by all site staff, at all times.
  • Ensure that staff provide sound and reasonable discipline to youth members at necessary times through written documentation (i.e. citation), and/or parent phone call.
  • Practice and constantly be aware of safe practices like Crisis Management, Emergency Preparedness, CPR and First Aid, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace at all times.

 5. Other Duties as Necessary

 QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Expectations

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have valid identification
  • Minimum 3 years of youth development, education, or community engagement experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in program planning, community outreach, and partnership development.
  • Experience working with teens and diverse communities.
  • Comfortable working with technology and managing grant compliance
  • Experience supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and the ability to get to and from work at the scheduled times.
  • The Club has an overtime policy when required for safety and special events. This could extend your workday and/or may require working on Saturdays as needed. You must be available for this type of work schedule.
  • CPR Certification (Adult, Child, Infant preferred), or attend and successfully complete certification within first month of employment.
  • Must pass a background check, TB and drug test.

 2. Education/Skills

  • Diploma/GED required, associate's/bachelor's degree from accredited college preferred. (Higher starting pay rate will be considered for those with BA/BS or higher).
  • Instructional Aid Qualified (Paraprofessional Test Required)
  • Enthusiasm and patience for working with children/teens and passion about education.
  • Exemplary communication and leadership skills
  • Excellent student interaction skills

 3. Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Maintain a high energy level and positive representation.

  • Stand for four plus hours per day.
  • Stoop, bend, climb, and walk frequently.
